In French, there is a term "mignon" which means small and cute or pretty in a delicate way - dainty. The first time I saw and held this doll, all I could think of is - ah "mignon!"

I don't know that it is any one thing - though the face is angelic. It is a combination of the small 9" size, with the simple, smooth cotton body that contrasts the textured hat. It is clearly a doll that naturally demands a gentle touch.

All Nanchen dolls are filled with KbT wool which is wool that is strictly controlled, for example, the pasture is not sprayed with pesticides, and there is no fertilizer used in the soil.

Nanchen Dolls have been lovingly stitched in a small town just outside of Kassel, Germany, since 1983. The dolls are made from materials that are sourced from strictly organic cultivation and organic farming. The faces are individually hand-painted, giving each doll its own unique character.

In addition to being snuggly and cute, Nanchen dolls meet strict safety and environmental standards. 

In 2012 Nanchen was purchased from the original owners, by two enterprising young women (Janah von Buttlar and Juliane Krueger) who as children played with Nanchen dolls. We look forward to expanding the reach of these wonderful dolls to the American market.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Care Instructions for Nanchen Dolls

If your wool filled doll gets dirty, you can first remove the coarse dirt with a brush. Since Nanchen only uses the best quality natural fibers (no polyester), heavy washing is usually not necessary.The pure sheep's wool filling is a natural fiber that can shrink, mat, or clump if exposed to hot water, harsh detergent, or strong spinning.

Light Cleaning:

  • Brush off coarse dirt gently.

Washing (if necessary):

  • Hand wash only
  • Use lukewarm water (comfortable to touch)
  • Use mild or wool-specific detergent
  • Avoid hot water, harsh detergents, and spinning

Washing Process:

  • Soak in clear water first
  • Add a small amount of mild detergent and gently move the toy in the water
  • Do not rub, brush, spin, or wring

Drying:

  • Squeeze out excess water gently
  • Lay flat on an absorbent towel
  • Reshape and move occasionally while drying
  • Wet wool smell will disappear after drying
